Salary: $87,214.00 to $104,056.93
Position Summary:
Supervises police officers, works independently, performs a wide variety of police enforcement and provides all law enforcement patrol services. You may be assigned to various assignments or positions by the Chief of Police.
Works under the general supervision of a Commander.
Essential Functions:
- Leads officers especially in high value and risk situations.
- Is responsible for the use of force by officers under supervision.
- Supervise and recommend discipline, scheduling and training of subordinates.
- Supervises police officers and other assigned staff in their duties.
- Coordinates shift changes and pass along vital information to the oncoming personnel.
- Enforces Town Ordinances; Colorado State laws; Federal laws; and provides police services. Performs patrol, investigation, traffic, and related law enforcement activities.
- Reviews a variety of police related reports prepared by subordinate officers or others.
- Evaluates officers’ arrests and searches.
- Makes day-to-day police assignments as required by the needs of the service.
- Make plans about individual tactical matters such as equipment to be used for particular operations, or the detailed plans needed for an investigation.
- Advises supervisors on deployment of personnel during emergency responses.
- Maintains contact with all police personnel to coordinate investigation activities, provide mutual assistance during emergency situations and provide general information about Department activities.
- Maintains contact with general public in the performance of police activities as assigned. Conducts periodic performance evaluation and planning sessions for assigned personnel. Counsel assigned personnel on job performance and disciplinary matters.
- Personally participates in investigating criminal law violations occurring within the Town’s limits, obtaining evidence and compiling information regarding these crimes, preparing cases for filing of charges, testifying in court, and related activities.
- Works rotating shifts in the performance of patrols; traffic control, investigation and first aid at accidents; detection, investigation and arrest of people involved in crimes or misconduct.
- Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and Town laws and ordinances.
- Patrols Town streets, commercial and residential areas to preserve the peace and enforce the law; control vehicular traffic, prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving misdemeanors, felonies and other law violations’ and to otherwise serve and protect.
- Responds to emergency radio calls and investigates accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, fights, drunkenness, missing children, prowlers, abuse of drugs and etc. Takes appropriate law enforcement action.
- Interrogates suspects, witnesses and drivers; preserves evidence; arrests violators; investigates and renders assistance at scene of vehicular accidents; summons ambulances and other law enforcement vehicles; takes measurements and draws diagrams of scene; conducts follow-up investigations of crimes committed during assigned shift; seeks out and questions victim; witnesses and suspects; develops leads and tips; searches scene of crimes for clues; analyzes and evaluates evidence and arrests offenders; prepares cases for filing; reviews warrants; and testifies in court proceedings.
- Prepare a variety of reports and records.
- Assist citizens with such matters as stalled vehicles, crime prevention, drug resistance, traffic safety and etc.
- Coordinates and supervises the training, assignment, development of subordinate police officers.
- Coordinates activities with supervisors and officers as appropriate.
- Makes Command notification when deemed necessary.
Requirements:
- Must be Colorado POST certified.
- Associate’s degree in related field preferable.
- Minimum three (3) years of Law Enforcement patrol experience with full-time arrest authority.
- Must have Peace Officer Certification as described in Colorado law and P.O.S.T. regulations.
- Must possess a valid Colorado State driver’s license.
- No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions as specified by Colorado law or Department policy. Must be able to read and write the English language.
- Internal candidates must not have received a performance evaluation within the last twelve months with a below a “Meets Standard” rating.
- Internal candidates must not have received any formal disciplinary action within the last twelve months.
- External selections must pass a complete background check as outlined by the Lakeside Police Department.
